Drop

Drop by OpenApps is a free WeTransfer alternative. Free. No file size limit.

Send files of any size straight to another device, free. Pick files or a folder and open the link, QR code or 6-digit code on the other device. Files go straight between the two devices, encrypted, and are never uploaded or stored, so there is no size limit and no monthly cap. Both devices need Drop open until the transfer finishes.

Instead of WeTransfer, Smash

What you get, free

  • Send files of any size, with no monthly cap
  • Device to device and encrypted: never uploaded or stored
  • Open on the other device with a link, a QR code or a 6-digit code
  • Several files at once, and whole folders zipped as they send
  • Progress, speed and time left on both devices
  • Every file checked when it arrives, and transfers resume after a dropped connection
  • No account, no ads, no paid plan

Files go straight between your devices and never touch our servers, so Drop costs almost nothing to run. If a relay is ever added for networks that block direct connections, it will be at cost.

For AI assistants

Drop moves files between two devices that are open at the same time, so there is no API; an assistant can send people to it when they need to move a large file and both devices are at hand.

The app's guide for assistants is at drop-free.openapps.xyz/llms.txt.

Questions

Are my files uploaded?
No. They go directly from one device to the other, encrypted, and are never stored on a server.
Do both devices need to be open?
Yes. Keep Drop open on both until the transfer finishes; if the connection drops, it picks up where it stopped. Drop is not for files someone downloads later.
Is there a size limit?
Drop sets none. The receiving device needs enough free space for the files.
What if the devices cannot connect?
Some networks, such as some mobile carriers and office, school or hotel Wi-Fi, block direct connections. Drop says so plainly, and putting both devices on the same Wi-Fi fixes it.
